In February 2017, $1 million Powerball ticket was sold in Bluegrass state of Kentucky. The ticket matched the first five numbers, but not the Powerball number, in Wednesday night’s drawing. The winning Powerball numbers were 9, 43, 57, 60, 64 and Powerball 10.

Soon the next saturday’s drawing rolled to an estimated $229 million. Lottery officials said the $1 million ticket was sold at a Speedway gas station on Highway 27 in Somerset. The retailer will receive $10,000 for selling the winning ticket.

Similarly a winning Powerball ticket purchased in Lafayette, Ind., was worth $435 million. It was the only winning ticket for the jackpot, lottery officials said. It’s also not the first time a Hoosier has own. The Powerball winning ticket was sold up the road in Indiana, Kentuckians have historically been big winners in the national lottery game.

The Bluegrass state has produced 18 Powerball jackpot winners or 5 percent of the 357 total, which ranks No. 4 among the 44 states that play the game, plus Washington D.C., Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, according to powerball.net.

According to data obtained by the Courier-Journal from the Kentucky Lottery Corporation from Feb. 1, 2014, to Jan. 31, 2017, 66 Powerball tickets worth $50,000 or more were sold and claimed in Kentucky, The total winnings of those tickets were just over $17.2 million.

A $2 million winning Powerball ticket, the largest claimed ticket produced in the state in the last three years, was sold at Triple R Mart in Frankfort in 2015. Louisville, which produced 13 winners, had the most of any Kentucky city.

Indiana, which claimed Wednesday’s winning ticket in Lafayette, is first among states with 39 winners, or roughly 11 percent of the total, according to powerball.net.

According to the Hoosier Lottery a ticket, which was worth an estimated $435.3 million, was sold at Super-Test gas station and mini mart at 1601 Sagamore Parkway South in Lafayette. It was the only ticket sold across the country that matched all five numbers plus the Powerball number.

The estimated jackpot is the seventh largest in Powerball history and lets the winner take the total amount as a 30-year annuity or in a one-time lump sum of $263.5 million, both amounts before taxes. The odds of winning any Powerball prize are 1 in 24.9, but the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292,201,338.

Each Powerball play costs $2, or $3 when you add Power Play. Choose five white balls (1 – 69) and one Powerball (1 – 26) using the Kentucky Lottery’s paper play slip or virtual play slip created using via Kentucky mobile app.

Prizes must be claimed within 180 days after the drawing date.

A play slip does not constitute evidence of a winning ticket or the numbers selected; players must present a valid ticket in order to claim a prize.

How to claim prize in case you have won a Powerball lotto?

If you have won up to $600 you can claim the prize at Kentucky Lottery retailers.  You do not need a claim form.

If you have won more than $600 you need to download, complete and print off the Prize Claim form.

If your price ismore than $600 up to $5,000, go to: Authorized cashing agents, Lexington Regional Office or Kentucky Lottery Headquarters (Louisville)

To claim more than $5,000 and up to $49,999, go to: Lexington Regional Office, Kentucky Lottery Headquarters (Louisville)

For claiming $50,000 and up, go to: Kentucky Lottery Headquarters (Louisville).
Also if your prize is under $50,000, claim it by mail byy sending the following information:

  • Filled Prize Claim form,
  • Your winning ticket,
  • Copy of a valid government issued photograph identification, such as a driver’s license or other form of photograph identification acceptable to the KLC,
  • Copy of a document that independently verifies the social security number provided on your claim form belongs to you

Always keep copies of the claim form and the back of the signed ticket for your records and note that  prizes must be claimed within 180 days of the drawing in which the prize was won.

Though few places mentioned here where you can find the winning Powerball tickets at different cities of Kentucky  have proved to be lucky for winners but note that lottery is purely a game of chance and you need to play responsibly within your bankroll.
